The Andersen Design sandpiper is a quintessential piece of mid century Maine art pottery, crafted by the renowned studio founded in 1952 by Weston and Brenda Andersen . This slip cast stoneware figurine features the studio's signature matte glaze, often dappled in sandy beach tones with brown slip to beautifully capture the shorebird's natural plumage. Produced from the mid century through the late 1970s, these hand finished birds are celebrated for their "Shibui" aesthetic, a simple, reserved elegance.

This particular piece appears to be unsigned, but with a magnifying glass we were able to make out a very faint “AD” mark. The bird measures 6” long, 3 1/2” tall, and 3 1/4” wide, it is in very good vintage condition without chips, cracks, or repairs.
