ANTIQUE FRENCH CAST IRON FRUIT PRESS, DUCK PRESS, OLIVE, CHEESE, GRAPE PRESS, H39-30cm 5.3kg - 1900s FRENCH KITCHENALIA DECORATION
*
Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
*
We got this from a brocante at Saint-Quentin in the Aisne region and have used it as a decorative kitchenalia item, however this press is from the early 1900s and would probably have been used on a worktop to press fruit.
They were also used to press olives, grapes, cheese and even cooked duck bones to squeeze out the jus…
NOTE: A very sturdy piece at about 5.3kg, this still works with the screw opening and closing as it should however the draining vessel has rusted through so leaks - as such this is being sold purely as a decorative piece of French kitchenalia.

In good antique working condition with wear, rust, staining, and knocks - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The cast iron surfaces are in a worn but sound condition still showing peeled original blue paintwork and traces of painted gold decoration - see photos.
The cast iron handle and screw is in good condition and works, opening and closing as it should with a brass handle screwed to the top.
The circular press plate spins but is secure and closes firmly.
NOTE: The metal cylindrical draining reservoir is worn and rusted with through corrosion at its base. An attempted repair has been made using what looks like a tin can but it still leaks through the rust holes. This could be remedied by sealing the interior edges, I think, but we have never done it. As such this is being sold purely as a decorative item - see photos.
There is a circular sieve insert which worn and rusted but sound.
The legs are rusted but sound and each has a fixing hole to bolt it to a surface if required.
I can find no maker’s mark.
