LARGE ANTIQUE FRENCH STONEWARE TRIPIÈRE CASSEROLE, CONFIT POT, DAUBIERE, TRIPE POT, 32cm long, 28cm diameter, 3.6kg - 1700s KITCHENALIA * Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more! * We got this from an antique dealer in Chatillon sur Seine, Burgundy some years ago and have used it as a display item. Known as a Tripiere, it’s a large stoneware or earthenware casserole typically used for cooking tripe but also known as a confit pot or Daubiere used to confit duck or slow cook stews such as daubes. Dating to the 1700s this originates from the Drome region of Provence where they were often taken to the local boulangerie to use the heat in their oven after bread making finished. Now worn but in good antique condition it is now probably best used as a decorative French kitchenalia item… * In good, sound, antique, condition with wear, knocks and staining - please see examine photos carefully for condition. Consists of a large stoneware lidded casserole. The surfaces are glazed with an attractive yellow ware to the upper half and brown to the lower half and lid. The glazed surfaces are worn and chipped in areas - see photos. Intentionally rustic and textured with some firing imperfections giving the whole an attractive patina - see photos. The lid is worn but sound and sits loosely and slightly crookedly on the pot. The handles are present and in good sound condition which is unusual for casserole of this age. The bottom has wear from use but is sound. I have filled this with water and it appears to be watertight. I can find no maker’s mark but the casserole has a mark 0 and the lid 1. * Measures approximately: 32 cm across handle to handle, 28 cm diameter at it’s widest, 11 cm tall, weighs about 3.6 kg. * If anyone wishes to purchase immediately we will seriously consider offers above the start price. That way the buyer ensures the purchase and we have a sale, without either having to wait for the listing to end. However offers have to be made before any bidding starts. * Quoted shipping is to standard mainland UK locations only - please enquire if in a more remote location. Collection is most welcome - This item is located at Stapleford, Nottingham, a mile or so from Junction 25 of the M1 Motorway.
