ANTIQUE FRENCH COPPER GRAPE HARVEST HOD, BUCKET - PLANTER, LOG BUCKET, ICE BUCKET, UMBRELLA STAND, 49cm tall 38cm long 32cm wide/deep 3.4kg - 1900s ART NOUVEAU ARTS & CRAFTS * Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more! * Part of our collection of French copper, we got this from an antique dealer in Chalons en Champagne and have used it variously as a planter, a log bucket and even a drinks cooler with ice in it. It’s a sturdy copper bucket in the shape of a grape hod that I’m advised dates to around the early 1900s and is Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts in style. Grape hods were used in the local champagne vineyards as backpack carriers during grape harvests or vendanges. I’m not sure whether this was made for that purpose or just fashioned to resemble a grape hod but it does have strap clips to the rear meaning it could be carried or decoratively wall mounted. A big handmade artisan piece with planished copper and a decorative repousse, pushed from behind, design of a bunch of grapes on the vine to the front, it’s really attractive. Worn but very sound and still watertight, it makes a great planter, log bucket, ice bucket, umbrella stand, or decorative interior or exterior piece… * In very good antique condition with staining, wear, scratches, dents and knocks - please examine photos carefully for condition. This has just had a thorough wash - I’m sure it would polish up well if so required. Solid and sound with no structural damage but does have wear - see photos. Watertight. The copper is bright, thick and strong with staining, tarnishing, knocks and wear - see photos. The base is worn but sound. The interior is worn and stained but sound. The grape pattern is worn but well defined, bright and sound. I can find no maker’s mark. * Approximate dimensions: 49 cm tall to the top of the back plate, 43 cm to the front edge, 38 cm long at its longest, 32 cm wide/deep, weighs about 3.4 kg. * If anyone wishes to purchase immediately we will seriously consider offers above the start price. That way the buyer ensures the purchase and we have a sale, without either having to wait for the listing to end. However offers have to be made before any bidding starts. * Collection is most welcome - This item is located at Stapleford, Nottingham, a mile or so from Junction 25 of the M1.
