Antique Brass Embossed Hunting Scene Black Powder Flask Civil War Muzzleloader The last picture shows a line in the seam open Description This antique brass powder flask features a richly detailed embossed hunting scene on the obverse face depicting quail and game birds among marsh reeds and grasses, with birds in flight above and a bold scrollwork and acanthus leaf border surrounding the entire composition. The relief is high and crisp throughout, indicating quality period manufacture. The reverse face is plain with a deep chocolate brown patina consistent with significant age. The brass charger assembly is intact with spring-loaded cutoff mechanism, retaining what appears to be patent markings on the charger neck. Four brass carry rings are present, two at mid-body and two at the base. This flask carries an original printed Grove Bros., Clare, Mich. store tag — from the downtown Clare, Michigan variety store whose owner Jim Grove is documented in period Michigan newspaper classified ads as actively purchasing old guns, powder flasks, and powder horns in the 1950s and 1960s.
