The "Schaefer
Beer/Machinists Union" IndyCar team was a notable CART racing entry in the
1980s, fielding the No. 55 car. It was primarily driven by Mexican driver
Josele Garza, who earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1981. The team's
distinctive red-and-white liveried racers featured March or Lola chassis
powered by Cosworth engines. The Machinists Union Racing Team, fully known as
the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), was a
unique effort in major open-wheel racing.
