This beautiful pair of Chumpi Khuyas (Mighty Hands) has been hand-carved by a Quechua artisan in the Cusco region of Peru. For generations, Chumpi Khuyas have held a special place in Andean spiritual traditions and are used by Q'ero paqos (Andean wisdom keepers) and other ceremonial practitioners as sacred ritual objects.

In the Andean worldview, these carved hands are associated with blessings, gratitude, abundance, and a harmonious relationship with Pachamama (Mother Earth). They are traditionally offered during ceremonies honoring the earth and giving thanks for a fruitful harvest.

Symbolism

Right Mighty Hand

  • The open finger symbolizes receiving goods. The carving features include a traditional Horseshoe (Herraje) motif, a design commonly used in Andean communities as a symbol of good luck and protection.

Left Mighty Hand

  • The gently closed fingers symbolize the ability to hold, preserve, and protect blessings, prosperity, good fortune, and spiritual energy. The carving includes coca leaves, revered in the Andes as sacred plants used in prayer, offerings, healing traditions, and spiritual communication.
