Original 11 x 14 inch photographic lobby card for the 1915 silent drama Hearts in Exile, starring Clara Kimball Young.
This exceptionally detailed ensemble scene shows a large gathering of Russian villagers inside a rustic log dwelling. Approximately a dozen actors appear around a central table and samovar, making this a particularly busy and visually interesting scene card.
The lower-right printed medallion reads:
“Clara Kimball Young in Hearts in Exile
Play by Owen Davis
From the Novel by John Oxenham
A Shubert Feature
5 Acts.”
The World Film Corporation emblem also appears at the lower left.
Hearts in Exile was released in 1915, directed by James Young and starred Clara Kimball Young as Hope Ivanovna. The film was adapted by Owen Davis from the novel by John Oxenham and distributed by World Film Corporation.
Unlike many silent films of this period, Hearts in Exile survives. Archival film elements are held by the George Eastman Museum.
A scarce piece of original silent-film advertising associated with one of the leading female stars of the 1910s.
Poor-to-fair original condition, but complete and displayable.
The most important issue is a long, branching tear beginning at the lower border and extending upward through the seated figures near the center-right. There is also a vertical split from the top edge, additional creases, edge and corner chips, small punctures, border losses, staining, surface abrasions and general age-related soiling.
Several faces have scratches or light surface loss, but the large ensemble composition remains readily visible. The World Film Corporation emblem and Hearts in Exile title medallion are both complete and clearly readable. The reverse has heavy creasing and soiling corresponding to the principal tears.
Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
