1917 Fighting Trail Ep 15 Western Showdown William Duncan Lobby Card 11x14

Original 11 x 14-inch photographic lobby card for Greater Vitagraph’s 1917 silent Western adventure serial “The Fighting Trail,” starring William Duncan and Carol Holloway.

This card is from Episode No. 15, “Out of the Flame,” the final chapter of the serial.

An exceptional large-scale Western showdown scene fills the entire card. Dozens of armed townsmen, cowboys and background extras crowd an Old West main street, many carrying rifles, shotguns and revolvers. Additional riders, horses and townspeople can be seen farther up the street.

The detailed Western town setting includes wooden storefronts, balconies, barrels, hitching areas and period signs including “Emporium,” “Post” and “Shave 15¢.” The tremendous number of actors and extras, visible firearms and depth of the street scene make this a particularly impressive example of early silent Western advertising.

The title emblem reads:

Some streaking may be surface dirt, but it may also include embedded staining or wear to the photographic surface. No cleaning or restoration has been attempted. There are pinholes, edge and corner wear, small tears, creases and paper losses, including a noticeable loss along the lower-right edge.
