Authentic Wagesa (Buddhist Monk Stole) from the Sacred Mt. Koya

This is a high-quality Wagesa used by practitioners and monks of the Shingon Sect. I personally visited Mt. Koya (Koyasan), the spiritual home of Shingon Buddhism and a UNESCO World Heritage site, to source this authentic piece.

This wagesa features a beautiful, intricate brocade pattern with a dignified luster typical of high-quality Buddhist textiles. It was sourced directly from Nakamoto Meigyokudo, a long-established Buddhist altar shop at the sacred Mt. Koya.

Owning this piece is like possessing a fragment of Japan’s ancient history and the refined beauty of the sacred mountain. It is not just a ceremonial item, but a genuine work of art representing the pinnacle of Japanese spiritual craftsmanship.

Symbolic Design & Crests (Mon):

This Wagesa features the two official crests that symbolize Koyasan Shingon Buddhism:

  • Go-shichi no Kiri (5-7 Paulownia): This prestigious crest represents the connection to the Imperial family and is the official emblem of Kongobuji, the head temple of Mt. Koya.

  • Mitsu-domoe (Triple Tomoe): A sacred symbol representing the guardian deities of Mt. Koya. It signifies the flow of energy and the protection of the mountain’s spiritual teachings.

Features:

  • Double-Sided Pattern: The intricate design, including the golden crests, is identical on both the front and back. This reflects the high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

  • Authentic Origin: Directly sourced from a temple town shop in Mt. Koya, Japan.

  • Ready for Gifting: Includes the original paper box. Perfect for meditation, religious ceremonies, or as a high-end collector's item.

Size (Approx.):

  • Main Body (Length): 45.5 cm (17.9 inches)

  • Tassels (Fusa): 30 cm (11.8 inches)
