These clarinets are the perfect example of Boosey and Hawkes' superb quality of construction. So much care was taken by the manufacturer in those days.
The quality shows clearly here when you can see how well these clarinets have stayed in such brilliant condition.
I was fortunate enough to have worked in the factory when the very last of these were being made so I know that I can say these things with confidence.
These clarinets were made around 1958.
You will note the long side Eb/Bb trill key.
This was a Boosey design, intended to prevent the right index finger from supporting the weight of the instrument.
Successful I think but it wasn't continued.
In their era the quality of the wood was excellent.
The A has a mark on the body.
This is likely to have been caused by knocking it or perhaps dropping it at some time early on I think. There is absolutely nothing to say about that apart from the cosmetic appearance.
They are supplied with the standard and shorter barrels as expected.
They have been owned by just one person from new. A personal friend of mine so I really do know the instruments well.
The Bb clarinet had to have a needle spring replaced. The Ab/Eb pinky key.
All leather pads in excellent condition throughout.
Standard Boosey and Hawkes mouthpiece no.2 lay is included. There are no teeth marks on this mouthpiece whatsoever. It is in excellent condition.
Since their overhaul I have play-tested them extensively and both instruments are really nice to play.
The double case is the original one from new which is a nice thing to have.
There are alternatives such as others I have for sale if you prefer.
I will also supply a few reeds if the buyer lets me know their preference.
A mouthpiece upgrade is also possible.
It will include a brand new stick of cork grease and a new good quality cotton pull through cleaner.
Please note that the price reflects the quality here.
There are many Emperor clarinets on sale but the ones I am selling are well known to me and are thoroughly overhauled and are not a risk in any way.
The cost of repairs following purchasing an unknown instrument can be extremely expensive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Thank you.
