Our client's antique (19th century) French ormolu bronze jewelry casket from the Gothic Revival period, inlaid with oval green stones with lined interior, retailed by the revered Parisian tabletier (dealer of luxury goods), Alphonse Giroux (1776-1848). 7 1/2 by 4 1/4 by 4 1/4 inches. Interior engraved A. Giroux Paris.
In good condition with rubbing wear and oxidation consistent with its age. Light scuffs and scratches. Wear to the interior lining.
According to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the firm was established in 1799 by by Alphonse Giroux and throughout the 19th century was known for its high-quality objects such as glove boxes, caskets for weddings and baptisms, gifts for the New Year, and small pieces of furniture in a variety of styles. Following the founder's passing in 1848, the firm continued to operate under the A. Giroux name and was managed by his sons until the firm's acquisition in 1867.
