The former owner was born in 1924 and immigrated to the US from Japan in the 1960s. She likely brought this with her then, as she never traveled back to her home country. 

Pre-owned.  There are areas of discoloration, a chip on the tip, the strap has been repaired, and the wooden handle shows minor wear.
