Description

“In Step With the Stars”. A look back at the timekeeping system and the master clock at the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) which didn't just keep time; it broadcast it to the nation. The clocks were kept accurate over the long term through regular observations of the Sun, Moon, and stars to determine Earth's exact orientation.  The USNO broadcasted "Rhythmic Time Signals" which provided accurate references for navigation and scientific work. Includes photos and info on:

  • Observing the Stars with a Transit instrument.
