This is a very nice piece of wood with .58 caliber Minie ball embedded in it. It measures 6 inches in length by 2¼ in width at the widest point. The wood is in stable and solid condition. The path of the ball can be seen and traced to where it came to rest. It is now tightly embedded with no play whatsoever. This artifact was recovered in the vicinity of the Battle of Cold Harbor, Va fought from May 31 to June 12, 1864. It is a silent witness to the fierce and savage fighting that took place there in 1864 and remains a beautiful example in excellent and solid condition.
