An interesting vintage brass euphonium bearing Bessons & Co. London markings.
Please note: this instrument is stamped "Bessons & Co. London". Following our research, we believe it to be a reproduction rather than a genuine Besson-manufactured instrument. Similar reproduction instruments are often believed to be of Indian origin, although we cannot confirm the country of manufacture of this example. It is being sold exactly as found as an untested vintage brass instrument for restoration, display or decorative use. It is not being sold as an authentic Besson instrument, and the price reflects this.
Despite this, it has a wonderful aged appearance with a naturally developed brass patina, making it an attractive decorative item for home, studio, theatre or pub display.
The three valves all move freely and return well. The main tuning slide moves freely, while the two smaller tuning slides are removable but stiff and would benefit from cleaning and lubrication. Without a mouthpiece we have been unable to test the instrument. Blowing through the leadpipe produces changing air resistance as each valve is operated, but no claims are made regarding playability, tuning or musical performance.
