Elvis Presley – Self-Titled LP | RCA Victor LPM-1254 (Mono, 1956)
Original First-Year Pressing | Iconic Pink & Green Cover | 3S Indianapolis Matrix
Up for sale is a cornerstone of Rock ‘n’ Roll history: a genuine 1956 U.S. Mono pressing of Elvis Presley’s debut album. This is the highly sought-after early-period pressing, identified by the G2PP-1282 3S matrix in the dead wax (Side 1).
THE BOTTOM LINE:
This copy was pressed at the RCA Indianapolis plant as part of the 3rd initial run of the debut album. We know this is a true early 1956 copy because:
- It features the Original Pink & Green front cover lettering.
- There is NO "RE" on the back cover (indicating it is not a later reissue).
- The Side 1 label credits Carl Perkins for "Blue Suede Shoes" (The very first 1S run mistakenly credited it to P.D., making this the corrected 1956 follow-up).
CONDITION REPORT
Vinyl: VG+ (Very Good Plus)
- Visual: Glossy with visible surface scuffs and light marks consistent with its age. No deep feelable scratches.
- Playback: Play-tested and sounds fantastic for a 70-year-old record. Plays through without skips. Expect some typical 1950s background crackle/ticks, especially on ballads, but it never overpowers the music.
- Labels: Original "Long Play" RCA Victor labels (Dog on Top). No writing or stickers. Typical spindle marks and one light needle scratch on Side 2 (see photos).
Jacket/Cover: Fair (F)
- Front: The legendary Pink/Green image still presents beautifully with no major stains or writing.
- Issues: Significant edge wear, corner dings, and ring wear.
- Seams: Noticeable seam splits and spine wear. The jacket is holding together but is delicate. This is a "player's copy" with a jacket that still looks iconic on a shelf despite its flaws.
