DESCRIPTION:
This 1772 etching by James Bretherton, after Henry William Bunbury, depicts a family scene of domestic discomfort.
An elderly man sleeps in a high-backed armchair, his wife nearby, a boy leaning over a book.
A middle-aged woman sits upright. In the foreground, a dog and cat fight. The room includes a guttering candle, window, and door.

NOTE:
Original etching printed on thick laid paper with unidentified 18th century watermark.
Published in London by JAMES BRETHERTON, New Bond Street n.134, 8th December 1772.

CONDITION:
Excellent dark impression.
In very good condition, paper wrinkled at the top.
