Hardcover, first edition with dust jacket. Dust jacket has protective cellophane sleeve under which some dust has accumulated. Red cloth boards with gold, debossed lettering, shows wear to edges but corners sharp. Binding sound. Text block has some small stains on edge. Leaves are fogged but clean.
Written 50 years after the French began their excavation of Delphi, this was the first attempt to write a history of the oracle using new information thereby uncovered in combination with literary accounts from Ancient Rome. H W Parke, Litt.D. (1903-86) was a classical scholar, Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin, and Professor of Ancient History. With b/w photographs. 457 pages, 232 x 158 x 34mm.
