Item Details
Description
This is an extremely rare Georgian silver baby rattle featuring a whistle and a coral handle.
The body is of baluster form with bright-cut engraved decoration. The central section is pierced, housing the internal rattle elements, while the lower terminal forms a whistle. A suspension ring is attached for securing to clothing.
The handle is formed from a natural coral branch, fitted with a silver collar. This construction is typical of early 19th century rattles.
The piece bears the maker’s mark “EM” for Elizabeth Morley.
