Blackhawks clinch first Prince of Wales Trophy

The Chicago Black Hawks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-0 on March 12, 1967, at Chicago Stadium.

This victory was a historic milestone for Chicago, as they clinched first place in the NHL regular season for the first time in franchise history since joining the league in 1926. By finishing at the top of the standings, they were awarded the Prince of Wales Trophy, becoming the last team of the "Original Six" era to win it for a first-place finish.

Key Performers: Ken Hodge and Lou Angotti each scored two goals for the Black Hawks.

Notable Achievement: Bobby Hull scored his 49th goal of the season during the game.

Context: This was the first game back for Toronto coach Punch Imlach after a health-related absence.

While Chicago dominated the regular season, the two teams met again later that year in the NHL Semi-Finals. In a major upset, the third-place Maple Leafs defeated the first-place Black Hawks 4 games to 2 on their way to winning their most recent Stanley Cup.
