Japanese Empire 1/2 Sen and 1 Sen copper coins, YR17 (1884). The Emperor was Mutsuhito and both coins were minted in the 17th year of his reign, which is 1884 in the Christian calendar. They both have the Imperial Dragon design on the obverse and the Chrysanthemum above sprays on the reverse.
They are listed in the Krause catalog as Y-16.2 and Y-17.2
The 1/2 Sen has V-scales on the dragon's body and the 1 Sen has Square scales on the dragon's body.
Both coins have circulated, have normal wear & circulation marks, and are a deep brown color.
