About the Book:

Dark Carnival was Ray Bradbury’s first collection of short fiction, originally published in 1947 by Arkham House. Drawing from the earliest years of his professional career, these stories reveal the foundations of a voice that would go on to define modern speculative fiction.

Many of the tales first appeared in magazines such as Weird Tales, and several were later revised for inclusion in The October Country. For this Subterranean Press edition, the collection is restored to its original form, reuniting the early stories and adding pieces that had remained unseen for decades.

The result is an intimate, atmospheric gathering of Bradbury’s formative work — eerie, lyrical, nostalgic, and quietly unsettling — presented here with a full suite of illustrations by the legendary Dave McKean.
