- Good Strength and Stiffness: Tensile strength of 80 MPa and tensile modulus of 3,300 MPa. Suitable for a wide range of structural and mechanical applications.
- Good Wear Resistance: Resistant to abrasion and surface wear. Ideal for bearings, bushings, and guide applications.
- Easily Machined: Machines and turns cleanly with standard tooling. Ideal for precision turned components.
- Good Chemical Resistance: Resistant to oils, fuels, and many solvents. Suitable for general industrial environments.
- Wide Temperature Range: Suitable from -40C to +70C long term. Better low temperature performance than many standard engineering plastics.
- Impact Resistant: Unnotched impact strength shows no break under test conditions.
- Good Electrical Insulation: High surface and volume resistivity. Suitable for electrical insulation applications.
- Important - Moisture: Moisture absorption at saturation is 9%. Parts may swell in permanently wet or submerged environments. For wet applications consider Acetal (POM C) or HDPE.
Nylon 6 vs Nylon 66 - Which Should I Choose?
Nylon 6 is a cost-effective general purpose grade suitable for most standard engineering applications. Nylon 66 offers higher strength (90 MPa vs 80 MPa), better creep resistance, and a higher service temperature (95C vs 70C long term). If your application involves sustained high loads, elevated temperatures, or demanding wear conditions, Nylon 66 is the better choice. For general purpose machined components and cost-sensitive applications, Nylon 6 is an excellent option.
