Authentic Brass Steam Locomotive railroad bell from late 1800's to early 1900's era. Large and very heavy! Bell was already restored when I acquired it years ago and I have kept it the same. Brass bell is 17 inches in diameter at the bottom and about 13.25 inches tall. If you count the height of the crown where the yoke attaches, it is another 3 inches. The overall height in cradle is 27 inches and overall width is 24 inches. The base of the cradle is 12 inches in diameter. The bell came with a nice wood (looks to be mahogany) base. The wood display base is 12 inches wide at the top, 14 inches wide at the bottom and is 1.5 inches thick. There are two identical oilers on each side of the bell which both have "The Lunkenheimer Co. Cin. O. Ideal No 1" stamped on the brass lids and "Left Hand" stamped on the adjusters. I have been told this bell is from a pre-1900 B.& O.R.R. (Baltimore & Ohio railroad) steam locomotive, but there is no definitive evidence or provenance to support it. There are some casting numbers embossed on the yoke and "302" is also stamped on one side. Those are the only markings I can find. The buyer of this bell can either except it for what it is (a really nice, good looking bell) or do more research to try and find it's lineage. Sometime in the past, the bell was turned on a lathe and the cut markings are still there. These could be easily polished out if desired. Due to size and weight; local pick up only in the Indianapolis, IN. area. I am willing to travel 2 hours out to arrange a meet/delivery. Any other shipping arrangements will have to be worked out by the buyer. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. Thank you for looking!
