Signed prominently by Richard Whitehurst, a resident of Norfolk Virginia in the Mid 17th century, as well as a Joseph Hatfield or Hartfield and John, possibly Kidder, This 13“ x 8“ legal document for a bond bears a wax seal and marc for john, possibly Kidder. The document begins with an award from John and his wife, Ellen, both of Lang???  And goes on to mention the terms of a bond. Written in the old style, the document is very difficult to read, but appears to relate to early settlers in Virginia.
