Our client's porcelain plaques in gilt bronze frames by Franz Xaver Thallmaier (German, active 1890-1910) depict Ludwig I (or Louis I) of Bavaria (1786-1868) and Countess van Arco-Steppberg, aka Marchesa Anna d'Androgna Pallavicini (1840-1922), after the original paintings by the German court painter, Joseph karl Stieler (1781-1858).

Each approximately 6 by 8 in (15.5 by 20.5 cm).

Thallmaier's studio in Munich employed exceptional porcelain painters decorating blanks, including plates, plaques and other objects, supplied by KPM, Hutschenreuther and Rosenthal.  We have not removed these plaques for inspection of the rears.

Ludwig was King of Bavaria from 1825 until his abdication to his son, Maximilian, in 1848 following the demonstrations related to the revolutions in the German states.

Pallavicini was wife to Count Alois Nikolaus von Arco auf Steppberg, son of Maria Leopoldine von Österreich-Este), later divorced.
