The America the Beautiful Quarters Program was a 12-year initiative by the US Mint that ran from 2010 to 2021. It featured 56 different unique designs on the reverse (tails) side of the quarter, each commemorating a national park, forest, monument, or historical site from every U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia. Each year the US Mint released five different designs that were released annually from 2010 to 2020, with a final 56th design released in early 2021. Sites were honored in the order they were first established as national parks or sites. The obverse design featured a restored version of the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan.
During ATB run, the Mint produced several versions. They produced the standard copper-nickel clad quarters found in everyday change. They produced proof sets for collectors with mirror like finishes, available in both clad and silver content. And finally for the coup de grace, they also issued a silver bullion set which consisted of large 3 inch diameter coins each containing 5 ounces of .999 fine silver. These coins duplicated the quarter designs exactly but were significantly larger. In my opinion this is one of the most underrated series of US coinage ever issued. They are artistically overwhelming, they teach the history of our country, and they contain a huge chunk of precious metal!
This auction is for one Tuskeegee Airmen ATB 5 oz burnished coin. Many collectors agree that the burnished finish is far superior in detail in comparison to the shiny bullion version. This coin commemorates the Tuskeegee Airmen National Park in the great state of Alabama. This is the 56th release of the 56 coins in the series. The reverse depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up in front of the Moton Field control tower, with two P-51 Mustangs flying overhead. Inscriptions include "THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS". .
This collector version America The Beautiful coin features a beautiful Burnished finish and the P mint mark. The edge has the purity and metal content inscribed (and guaranteed by the U.S. Mint). Comes in with protective box and capsule along with a certificate of authenticity.
This gem of a coin comes in its original government packaging (OGP) which consists of the coin housed in a secure plastic capsule within the individual presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) which verifies the coin's technical specifications.
I was original purchaser of this coin in 2021 directly from the US Mint, and coin has been in storage ever since. I have never opened, removed, or handled the coin, or box, in any way, except to confirm contents for this listing. The coin is as pristine as the day that it was minted.
I have included stock photos to show you the coin that you will be receiving. Please ask any questions before bidding.
