Is Sex Necessary? Or, Why You Feel the Way You Do
James Thurber and E. B. White
From the Foreword:
“During the past year, two factors in our civilization have been greatly overemphasized. One is aviation, the other is sex. Looked at calmly, neither diversion is entitled to the space it has been accorded. Each has been deliberately promoted.
In the case of aviation, persons interested in the sport saw that the problem was to simplify it and make it seem safer. They introduced stabilizers and emergency landing fields. Even so, the plain fact remained that very few people were fitted for flying. With sex, the opposite was true. Everybody was fitted for it but there was a lack of general interest. The problem in this case was to make sex seem more complex and dangerous. This task was taken up by sociologists, analysts, gynecologists, psychologists, and authors; they approached it with a good deal of scientific knowledge and an immense zeal. They joined forces and made the whole matter of sex complicated beyond the wildest dreams of our fathers. The whole country became flooded with books. Sex, which had hitherto been a physical expression, became largely mental…….”
From the Preface:
“Men and women have always sought, by one means and another, to be together rather than apart. At first, they were together by the simple expedient of being unicellular, and there was no conflict. Later the cell separated, for reasons which are not clear even today, although there is considerable talk. Almost immediately the two halves of the original cell began experiencing a desire to unite again-usually with a half of some other cell. This urge has survived down to our time. Its commonest manifestations are marriage, divorce, neuroses, and a little less frequently, gun-fire.” - Summary by E. B. White and James Thurber

About MP3 Audio
This MP3 digital audiobook is duplicated on compact disc in the MP3 audio format and is designed to play on any computer. It will play on CD and DVD players that are designed with MP3 capability. The files contained in an MP3 CD can be imported and played on mobile devices such as the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Android tablets and smart phones and on PSP (Play Station Portable) and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) devices. Your CD/DVD player or mobile device owner’s manual should specify whether the device has MP3 compatibility. If the device is not directly compatible with the MP3 Audio format, the files on the MP3 CD can be copied onto a computer drive and then played on the computer media player or transferred to a mobile device.
The Recordings
These recordings were made using the author’s original published work, which is in the public domain. The readings were recorded by members of Librivox.org, which has generously made the recordings available to the public domain. While Librivox condones the sale and distribution of these recordings, it is not associated with the management or operations of MP3 Audiobook Classics. The audio files have been lightly edited and have been engineered using professional audio tools for maximum sonic quality. We spend considerable time and effort to ensure the recordings are free of noise, equalized for maximum listener pleasure, and that tracks are leveled and normalized to provide a consistent listening experience.

- If you are buying multiple items and want to request a discount for shipping costs, we suggest you request an invoice using the button for that in the shopping cart. When we receive your request, we will figure the discount and send an invoice which can be used to finalize payment.
- Checkout must be completed within 7 days of the close of listing.
- If payment isn’t received within this time period, the item(s) will be re-listed, and a Non-Paying Bidder alert will be filed.

Payments
- We work with the eBay payments system and so payment methods are determined by eBay.
Shipping
- Shipping Charges - Items listed with shipping charges are shipped via the most economic service, and the costs charged reflect our shipping costs. The most economical service is generally USPS First Class for two-ounce shipments, which is the weight of a single CD in a paper sleeve or cardboard jacket. USPS Media Mail is the least expensive for four-ounce shipments, which is the weight of a single CD in a DVD case.
- Delivery Times - We ship within 2 business days after receipt of payment. Most items ship via USPS Media Mail or First Class. Lead time for Media Mail is 6-8 days and First Class is 1-4 days. The date of shipment is registered by eBay when the tracking information is entered.
- Tracking
- All our shipments are tracked. Tracking is done differently according to package format because of item size, weight, and cost.
- MP3 CDs with paper security sleeves and most MP3 CDs in jackets are shipped in a large envelope using tracking by LetterTrackPro. That service is part of the USPS Informed Visibility system. The tracking codes are accepted as valid by eBay. USPS provides updates as items are scanned throughout the delivery path, with the last scan occurring when the item is put out for delivery. Reporting can be obtained by visiting the LetterTrackPro website or by contacting us.
- MP3 CDs in DVD cases and most orders for multiples of MP3 CDs in sleeves and jackets shipped with tracking by the standard, higher cost USPS system that scans parcels at the point of delivery.
- All orders will have the tracking number added to the fulfillment details when the number is obtained.
Returns
- Unopened Merchandise - We will accept returns for unopened merchandise and will issue credit for the value of the item or a refund. Returns of unopened items may be subject to a 10% restocking fee, which will be deducted from your credit or refund. We do not refund the original shipping and handling charges.
- Defective Merchandise - Because our products are data discs that may not play in CD audio players that are not compatible with MP3 data discs, we distinguish between discs that are not defective but will not play in a CD audio only player from discs that are truly defective and will not play in a MP3 compatible CD player or in a computer disc drive. Our listings have clear language that explains the unique nature of MP3 data discs. We ask that you attempt to play the discs on a computer CD or DVD ROM player to determine if the player or the disc is the problem. If you are unable to play the disc on a computer, we consider the disc to be defective.
- Non-Defective Merchandise Returns - We will accept returns of merchandise that is not defective but will not play. We will issue credit or a refund, at the discretion of the customer. Shipping charges on the initial order will credited or refunded. We will provide a shipping label for non-defective returns but ask that the customer pay for return postage.
- Defective Merchandise - We do not want returns of defective merchandise. Once you establish that the item is defective as per above, we will ship a replacement item or issue a refund, at your discretion. Shipping costs for replacement items will be borne by us. Refunds will be made in full.
- Non-Returnable Merchandise - Items cannot be returned if they have been opened or used and are not physically defective.
