Vintage Coro Pegasus Blue Glass Insect Brooch – Fly / Bee Design

United States, circa 1940–1960

This vintage brooch by Coro Pegasus features a stylized insect form resembling a fly or bee, crafted in gold-tone metal and set with vibrant blue glass stones. The body is centered by a large faceted oval blue glass stone representing the abdomen, paired with a smaller round blue glass stone forming the head. Sculpted wings and articulated legs create a dimensional and whimsical mid-century design that reflects the playful naturalistic motifs popular in American costume jewelry during the post-war era.

The reverse bears the Coro Pegasus signature mark, used by the company from approximately 1940 through the late 1960s to designate their higher-quality jewelry. Coro was one of the largest and most successful American costume jewelry manufacturers of the 20th century, and pieces bearing the Pegasus mark remain popular with collectors. This brooch exemplifies the imaginative design and craftsmanship that defined mid-century American fashion jewelry and is particularly appealing to collectors of insect jewelry, Coro Pegasus pieces, and vintage costume brooches.
