• Richard Youngs's first release, ADVENT, an undisputed classic of the avant-minimalist underground, finally gets its due as a Jagjaguwar reissue. Essentially one long song in three movements built around an almost imperceptibly subtle shifting piano phrase (a la Philip Glass), the album sounds unlike anything else on the planet. While adept at Glass-y minimalism, Youngs also ups the ante by bringing in John Cale-esque improvisational oboes and electric guitars that screech and grind in friction with the piece's underlying rigidity. Bracing and beautiful stuff.
