Offered is an original 1893 “New York Day” Gettysburg Monument Dedication medal suspended from its original bar clasp marked:

“GETTYSBURG VETERAN”
“JULY 1-2-3 1863”

Struck in bronze at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia for New York veterans who participated in the Battle of Gettysburg. Approximately 11,000 medals were produced and awarded to verified veterans.  A desirable Civil War veteran commemorative medal.

Obverse: Central shield with the New York state coat of arms flanked by allegorical figures of Liberty (left) and Justice (right.  Top has Eagle with wings outstretched perched on globe.  Inscription around rim "DEDICATION OF STATE MONUMENTS AT GETTYSBURG JULY 1-2-3 1893 * NEW YORK DAY*"

Reverse: New York State Monument located in the Gettysburg National Cemetery with inscription dates "1863" and "1893" flanking the monument.  Border of oak and laurel wreaths.
