An aftermarket Land Rover AMR4831L lead made by myself.

These are the leads necessary for fitting CD changers with Philips part code 22DC082 to:

1. Early Land Rover Discovery and Defender head units
2. Rover 200, 400 and 800 high-end head units (the R950 and R960)
3. The MG "741" head unit, which was the OE fit for the MGF.

NB: If you're considering fitting this lead to a 741 in an MG RV8, unfortunately the strain relief fouls the rather tall vertically orientated pre-amp output connector(s) directly next to the ISO block, which I understand are used on the RV8 to drive two separately amplified rear speakers (standard OE configuration). I will be advertising a genuine AMR4831L lead (for more money than my leads) which should work for you.

Your head unit should say "CD changer controller" on the front panel, and on the back there should be a 10-pin socket (two rows of 5) above the power and speaker sockets which has its metal pins present. Pin 4 can be missing as that's not used in the connection.

So this lead has a 10-way ISO plug at one end for the head unit and a 13-pin DIN SOCKET at the other.

*** IMPORTANT NOTICE ***: If you've got a different head unit and CD changer to those mentioned and pictured, you need a different lead. If you have an R770 or R860 (Rover) or Land Rover units which look the same as these but in a grey/light grey colour, or something like the Philips RC388 which is a popular choice in the MGF and RV8 if a "741" can't be found, then the correct CD changer is the Philips RC 026. In this case, I also make and sell a conversion lead to be used in conjunction with the AMR4831L lead sold here, which converts the AMR4831L (D2B standard) to the later Philips HSSX standard that specifies an 8-pin DIN plug at the CD changer (RC 026) end.

Getting back to this lead, it's an exact copy of AMR4831L but has a slightly longer length of 3 metres (standard AMR4831L leads were 2.5 metres long). It neatly angles the cable exit downwards at 45 degrees to avoid the other connectors and the mounting stud on the back of the head unit, positioning the cable ready to curl down or back on itself to reach the CD changer.

The bare cable is UK made and sourced, and has defence-standard certification for use in military aircraft and vehicles. Rated 1 amp per conductor (the CD changer doesn't consume anywhere near this, including peak motor start-up current).

The ISO connector is top quality, made by TE Connectivity (previously AMP). All connections made are soldered AND crimped.

The outer ground contact strip is necessary for this lead to ensure chassis continuity with the CD changer, as it's connected to the 13-pin DIN socket outer shield which contacts the outer shield on the CD changer plug. This is by way of a 0.3mm brass strip 10mm wide, bonded to the connector body and soldered internally.

Lead-free Loctite "96SC" multicore solder has been used everywhere, with a near 4% silver content for longevity and supreme conductivity.

The cover is Bambu Labs PETG-CF (carbon-fibre loaded PETG), chosen for its surface finish and additional temperature resistance. It's a 3-part print with a long 90-degree slide-in end cap and a slide on strain relief, secured using JB Weld Plastic Bonder (the parts are a tight push fit to begin with). The cover is gripping mounting protrusions on the connector body - two wings on the latch side which can be seen, and 5 square pips on the other side, obscured by a flat outer layer on the end cap.

All cover components have been annealed at 70°C for 12 hours. PETG-CF has the following characteristics in its non-annealed printed state:

Long term service temperature 80°C–100°C

Vicat softening 85°C, which measures penetration of a 1mm2 needle tip to a 1mm depth.  The cover design has a minimum wall thickness of 2mm everywhere apart from a couple of tiny areas, which are 1.5mm.

Heat deflection temperature of 74°C at a pressure of 0.45MPa, which translates to a force of 266N on the back face, equivalent to it being crushed under a 27.2Kg weight

Ignoring the annealing (which improves temperature resistance above the quoted figures), if I take the lowest of these top temperatures of 74°C (despite the ridiculous loading of 27Kg required to see an effect), accounting for a temperature differential from the inside to the outside of a vehicle of up to 30°C, the cover should be good for summer temperatures up to 44°C.  If you take the Vicat temperature, then you can see the cover will survive the highest temperatures ever recorded anywhere in the world apart from one record temperature in Death Valley in the USA of 56.7°C in 1913 (56.7°C + 30°C = 86.7°C).

Each cable has been FULLY tested with Land Rover, Rover and MG head units (I own all 3 types) and two 22DC082 CD changers. During construction, continuity and all shorting possibilities are checked several times, e.g. after soldering, during plug assembly and after initial cover fitting at both ends, and following gluing of the custom ISO plug cover end cap, cable strain relief, etc.

PS: 3 metres should be long enough for most installations, but I can make custom extension leads to any length and create an eBay listing for a very reasonable price. For example, the Rover 800's "official" CD changer boot installation specifies the changer cable running down the side of the car either at the passenger or drivers side upper sill after routing left or right either behind the glove box or over the steering column. This can require a lead length of 5 or 5.5 metres, when routing down the centre of the car would require far less.
