The unique thing about this model is the ability to download your old footage via USB into a desktop application (movie maker etc.). Absolute game changer! No messing about with FireWire, trying to find an old PC or lots of adapters and special devices. You can install the MotionDV software which will install the drivers (a Google search will find it) although the original disc is included also.

I have played a tape for an hour and recorded for an hour and the battery held out with a bit of a charge between. However, it obviously will be older and might be better replaced or having a second one on hand. There is no mains power lead. This is not a new device.
