La Sportiva Baruntse Mountaineering Boots Size - Men's EU 46/US 12.5
Hello & Thanks for looking! I'm thinning out the gear closet (among other things) and I have these La Sportiva Baruntse's. Sadly, they do not fit me (I sized up for double socks and did not need to in these boots, because they are so warm). The boots are essentially brand new and were only used in the field for a day to test the fit (the tags are in the box), but I could not return due to one issue........In the process of fitting & testing I clipped the left boot with a crampon (please see the photos). Thankfully, the cut is only superficial and does not go all the way through the outermost layer of the rand. I repaired it anyway with Shoe Goo to "close the wound" and prevent any future peeling or fraying. These boots have many years & miles left and I would like to see someone get some good use out of them. Original box, footbeds, tags, & liners are all there.
The Baruntse's are a fantastic double boot designed to tackle big peaks (6000-7000 meter), mixed terrain, glacier travel, tower climbing, and vertical ice. I am a big fan of La Sportiva boots, as you'll see in my other listings and I will never part with the other pair I have that does fit. The liners are heat moldable and were never molded in this pair. The quality is exceptional and what you would expect from a boot that had an original MSRP of $625.00. Each boot weighs in at 3.35 lbs. (6.70 lbs. for the pair).
Please note: Shipping will be through USPS Priority Mail (1-4 business days). Shipping on these ranges anywhere from $10.83 - $73.41 (shipping from MA). If you need them sooner or have a trip coming - feel free to reach out to me prior to purchasing and I will do my best to help. Once the sale is made, there isn't much I can do.
From the Interwebs:
The La Sportiva Baruntse is a popular, insulated double mountaineering boot designed for high-altitude and extreme cold conditions, offering warmth, protection, and technical capability without the bulk of plastic boots. Key features include a removable, heat-moldable inner boot for custom fit, a waterproof outer shell with thermo-reflective lining, aggressive Vibram sole for traction, and compatibility with all crampons, making it ideal for big mountain climbs and technical ice/winter routes where warmth and reliable performance are crucial.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Double Boot System: Combines a waterproof outer boot with a removable, insulated inner boot (bootie) for superior warmth and quick drying in camp.
- Warmth: Features high-density insulation, an aluminum-lined insole, and thermo-reflective layers to keep feet warm in extreme cold, suitable for 6,000-7,000 meter peaks.
- Comfort & Fit: The inner boot is heat-moldable (like a ski boot liner) for a custom, slipper-like fit, while the design balances rigidity for climbing with flexibility for comfort.
- Performance: Offers good sensitivity and responsiveness, feeling less clunky than typical plastic boots, with a stiff sole for front-pointing on ice and mixed terrain.
- Waterproof & Durable: PU-coated synthetic outer boot provides excellent waterproofness, protected by an anti-abrasion film.
- Crampon Compatibility: Accepts all types of crampons, essential for glacier travel and ice climbing.
Who is it for?
- Mountaineers tackling big peaks and glacial routes.
- Winter explorers needing warmth and reliable performance.
- Climbers who want the warmth of a double boot but prefer less bulk and more sensitivity.
Tips:
- Consider sizing up, as La Sportiva often suggests adding a half size to your street shoe size for proper fit with thick socks.
- Pair with gaiters (like OR Crocodile) for complete snow and ice protection as the boot itself doesn't have an integrated gaiter.
