---See
all the attached pictures, Ive taken of every angle to show off this
great condition timepiece, and to highlight its condition as best I
could.
This timepiece has been recently rebuilt and restored, The Spear style
Luminous hands are NOS and the printed Accutron crystal is new and perfect!
On completion, the timepiece was complemented with a nice Leather croc grain strap.
I
also do repairs to Tuning Fork watches, (Accutron, Omega etc), contact
me if you need advice etc. but please note, I specialise Only in
electronic tuning-fork types (Watches that Hum) I'm sorry but I do not repair any other types.
The
Third picture illustrates the four colours of leather strap are
available as an alternative to the one fitted. Please
let me know at auction end if you prefer a different one or the
watch will be shipped as pictured.
A nice and very eye-catching watch!
For
those collectors going to ask me if this is a 'Conversion' All I can
say is, Yes of course, It was made by me using new and new old stock parts as well as a 1966 donor watch.
Unlike other sellers claiming all sorts of potch, I honestly tell you. See lower down for info on Spaceview conversions.
The 17 Jewel 214 USA made tuning-fork movement in this timepiece has been fully stripped down,
ultrasonically cleaned, the parts examined under microscope (400x~) any
faulty/worn were replaced, and then the movement was built back up using
the Swiss Made, Moebius range of lubricants recommended by its makers.
The windings of the coil were given a generous coating of electronic conformal coating
to protect them from any issues of moisture or slight battery
leaks--usually death to any electrical item.
These watch coils are
getting hard to find in working condition so its only good sense to
protect them.
Phasing (vital adjustments to work right, made during the restoration
work) of the indexing linkage was done using my specially modified and
voltage stabilised Accutron 700 test-set, and using my own devised
methods to run stable with no indexing errors at up to 2.1 Volts, to ensure
correct operation even with a new/fresh Silver-Oxide 394 watch battery,
whose voltage can be as high as 1.62V, especially if its really fresh
from factory and a little warm.
This
means that any normal modern 387S or 394 Silver-Oxide modern watch battery will work
faultlessly in this watch, no need to hunt for special trick batteries, that only last 8-10 months and cost a small fortune!.
However--I
recommend only 'ENERGIZER' or Seizeiken make cells are used, as these seldom if
ever leak due to their double seal system, unlike those awful swiss-made 'renata' things, the number of
leaky ones Ive seen is incredible, Worth a google if you get bored, I'm
not the only one who has had issues with them!.....
After
movement service, it was fitted to its sterilised, cleaned and lightly
polished case and the completed timepiece was left to run for a couple
of days to settle,
and finally set to run to Accutron Standards using a Vibrograf timegrapher.
I
don't think there are any other Accutrons for sale Anywhere, let alone
ebay that have been rebuilt to this standard, nearly all with un serviced movements.
It really is amazing just how dirty and cruddy or corroded an Accutron
movement can get before it grinds itself to a stop, usually damaging
parts as it does so.
Have
a look, Magnify the
pictures- see for yourself the dusty, dirty, corroded cruddy movements
in
so-called 'serviced' and badly converted Spaceviews, some with butchered
dials infesting ebay, like a hoard of zombies from The Walking Dead,
with about as much life left in 'em too!
If the pictures of
those other listings can't
be magnified or are out of focus--What are they hiding? A properly
serviced movement will have practically no dust, hairs, fibres,
skin-flakes or any other crud in or on it. Ive taken many reasonably
clear pictures, but if you want a specific angle shot of the timepiece
let me know.
As can clearly be
seen, Most Accutrons for
sale haven't even been serviced in the last 20 years, let
alone properly overhauled, as there's so few guys left with the
knowledge, spares or equipment to do them. I have invested much time
and money getting the equipment and spares together over the last 30 odd
years on and off to restore Accutron properly.
Please
Note, you are buying just the Accutron 214 Spaceview timepiece and its
leather strap, and NOT any of the other items shown in one of the
pictures, it does not come with its original box or any original
paperwork unfortunately.
It will however be securely packed for shipment.
(Both the movement, case seals and the coil assembly have been security-marked to prevent fraud)
Please note, I can't send this watch to any country not served by the Ebay Global Shipping Program, sorry.
Please
note--If you are going to pay by pay-pal 'eCheque' then there may be a delay
of up to two weeks to allow this to clear before the watch is sent out
to you. Please check your pay-pal payment methods as they seem to impose
this payment format at random for some unknown reason.
A few words on Spaceviews and conversions--
There
are very few genuine Factory Made Spaceviews of the printed crystal
type around. (dots/logos etc printed on the inside of the 'glass') Most were converted at time of sale, or sometime in the
last 50 odd years.
Bulova even supplied the kits to do it!
The
early original '60's faceless/dial less tuning-fork 214 Accutron was a
shop-window prop, to show off the new technology nothing more, until
public demand brought about the conversion-kits Bulova supplied dealers
to modify certain standard dialed watches at time of sale.
You
could walk into any Bulova dealer and for a few extra bucks over the
usual watch price, have a normal 214 watch converted to Spaceview before
buying it! Many dealers did great business doing this.
If you
want a factory original Spaceview, Look
for a Chapter-Ring type as these are difficult/impossible to make from a
standard dialled watch, and not one with hour/minute markers printed on
the inside of the crystal, as I can tell you practically ALL
printed-crystal Spaceviews on ebay or anywhere else for that matter, are
in fact 'conversions' even if the seller claims otherwise.
Watch
out though, for those watches with a butchered dial, (Loads about!!)
where most of the original dial has been cut away to show the movement,
making a primitive chapter-ring, most without thicker hour markers or
even aligned in the case right....
--Easy to spot these
Frankenstein-abortions, the improvised chapter-ring domes/bulges upwards
from its outer edge to its inner edge and the edge cut now visible has
usually pretty poor finish, often with thin/incorrect markings and look
just plain--Wrong!
A Proper reflector/chapter-ring dishes
downwards from its outer edge towards the movement, and has perfect
markings, thicker hour markers and or lume, and has a perfect edge
finish, as the official chapter-ring Spaceview case has a rebate cut
into it to accept the additional chapter-ring/reflector height.
**
Please ensure that at the time of bidding, your address registered with
ebay is correct, as the watch will be sent to that address if you
should win.**
A quick note for the Muppets out there, Genuine people, please ignore....
Some
guys think its OK for them to cut and paste chunks of the above text to
use in their listings to sell their own sub-standard junk, as they have
no idea or imagination to write their own. It is NOT OK!
This has happened twice now and will NOT be tolerated.
In
both cases, Ebay agreed with me and those faker listings were removed
forthwith, with both financial and other penalties incurred by those
muppets.
