Axes are the most famed and favoured weapons of the Vikings.
It was not used as a weapon but was worn by priestesses as an object of veneration, just as a cross is worn today.
Axe shaped pendants are fairly typical for Viking Age and fair number of them have been found all over Scandinavia and Baltics.
