Historic Disneyland Treasures from the Worldwide Disneyana Specialists at Saturday's Toys presents... a rare vintage 8" x 10" black and white photo in front of the "Temporary Traffic Information Center" as used to coordinate with local law enforcement agencies during Disneyland's earliest months of operation.
Pictured in front of the structure (one of the original farm houses beyond the berm of Disneyland) are several off-duty officers that appear to be wearing uniforms with the embroidered insignia patch of the California Highway Patrol... as called up to assist with the various traffic needs that were emerging as Disneyland became the newest popular destination in Southern California.
These officers were called into service on peak attendance days to assist in traffic control on the streets leading to Disneyland's main parking lot. In essence, during those early years, the Burns Security Service handled all security concerns inside the park... and these local area police officers handled traffic concerns on the streets surrounding the park.
The five-bedroom home and 10 acres of fruit trees (orange, lemon, avocado, peach, plum and pomegranate) had been purchased when the land for development of the Disneyland property was being secured. The farm had been owned by George Vandenberg (March 7, 1890 - March 18, 1979), his wife Grace and their growing family on the west side of the rural road in Anaheim known as "Nursery Avenue" (later changed to West Street; and known today as "Disneyland Drive"). Once the land had been purchased, the house sat empty until Van France, Disneyland's new director of training, was tasked with turning the structure into a suitable space for training the first generation of Disneyland management. He and Dick Nunis immediately went to work in refurbishing the home into a working space with gathering rooms for more than three dozen people at a time. After painting the house with a fresh coat of white paint, the site became affectionately known to insiders as "the White House." In addition, it became an informal watering hole ("coffee") for the Anaheim Police Department and the California Highway Patrol... a friendly gesture that paid big dividends in the park's early years when the area was still new to travelers from throughout the world.
After the home was finally demolished, the land was re-purposed as part of the Disneyland Hotel golf driving range... and today serves Disneyland guests as the new Pixar Pals Parking Structure.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.
Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
