Presented here is an original pair of 1985 César (France)
Laurel & Hardy latex masks, a wonderfully produced and increasingly
scarce set capturing the iconic comedy duo with expressive sculpting and hand-painted detail.
Made in France by César Mask’s, one of Europe’s premier mask
manufacturers of the 1960s–1990s, these pieces show the
characteristic craftsmanship that distinguished the company:
deep molded facial lines, airbrushed shading, and a reinforced
stitched back seam. Both masks carry molded marks reading
“© César 1985” and “Larry Harmon’s”, confirming legitimate
licensed production during the period when Larry Harmon
controlled likeness rights to Laurel & Hardy.
Each mask includes its original interior molded support cup,
a manufacturing feature used by César during this era to maintain
shape and improve comfort for wear. The sculpting faithfully
captures Stan Laurel’s arched expression and Oliver Hardy’s
trademark mustache and bowler, presenting an immediately
recognizable display of classic comedy history.
These masks survive well for 40-year-old latex, retaining their shape
and coloration. They show normal age-related characteristics such as
minor paint rubs, small surface speckling on the interior, slight seam
exposure where original stitching rests, and tiny manufacturing divots
typical of César’s hand-finished molds. Overall they present
beautifully and remain highly displayable.
As a matched pair, they are especially desirable—Laurel & Hardy sets
by César were not produced in large numbers and have become
notably collectible among vintage mask enthusiasts, classic film
collectors, and Halloween historians.
César Mask’s was founded in France in the mid-20th century
and became a major European producer of high-quality latex
masks throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Known for expressive
sculpting and superior material quality, César secured licenses
for numerous pop culture and cinematic characters.
Their earlier work—such as these Laurel & Hardy masks—has
become sought-after for its craftsmanship and limited production scale.
1985, as clearly molded into the latex.
Both masks structurally sound
Minor paint rubs consistent with age
Light interior speckling typical of vintage latex
Original stitched fabric reinforcement visible
Small factory divots and light edge wear
Oliver Hardy’s mouth slit shows thin interior support strip
Stan Laurel has tiny slit on upper lip
Presents very well overall for a 1985 latex pair.
