Compared to the original Alpha 80, the Evo version offers Slatefiber in place of polyglass material for the woofer, a new cabinet design, a third input jack, a defeatable automatic standby mode, and inserts for wall mounting. The combination of the updated cabinet, 8" Slatefiber woofer, 1" aluminum inverted dome tweeter, and two Class-D amplifiers allows the Alpha 80 Evo to produce neutral, distortion-free tone across its 38 Hz to 22 kHz frequency response. Use the onboard 2-band EQ to alter the sonic performance according to room eccentricities as well as personal preference. The Alpha 80 Evo's 8" Slatefiber cone woofer is manufactured in France using recycled nonwoven carbon fibers and thermoplastic polymer to deliver sonically neutral sound with no distortion. An aluminum inverted dome tweeter contributes to wide dispersion, enabling the same sound to be maintained throughout the entire room. Producing identical tonal balance at both low and high volume, the Alpha 80 Evo is a reliable reference monitor. Balanced XLR, 1/4" TRS, and unbalanced RCA input jacks on the rear panel allow the Alpha 80 Evo to properly interconnect with all types of output sources such as monitor controllers, audio interfaces, and mixers. In terms of amplification, this full analog monitor is equipped with two Class-D amplifiers whose high-current capacity allows full control of the signal dynamics. The Alpha 80 Evo features a 5/8" thick MDF cabinet and internal braces to ensure it is highly robust even at the highest levels of acoustic pressure. A bass-reflex design is used to ensure easy acoustic integration in even the most cramped spaces. Rounded contours and interesting side panels create an appearance which contributes to a harmonious signature across the Focal collections.
