A delightful and increasingly rare memento from the sighting of Halley's comet in 1835 which resulted in a fashion for these wonderful comet brooches

This example gives an approximately 10 mm cushion / round cut garnet of deep 'pigeon blood' red and a similar 4.5 mm round garnet.
The garnets replicate the head and tail of the comet. The gems are foil lined with closed back settings.
The larger stone has an estimated weight of 3.5 to 4 carats.
