Ozeki Bunkoya was founded in Tokyo's Sumida Ward by Ozeki Usaburo, who used techniques passed down in the Edo period based on Himeji leatherworking, a local craft of Banshu Himeji.

Since its founding, the company has been meticulously handcrafting each piece of traditional "bunko leather."

The pure white leather, also known as Himeji leather, produced in Banshu Himeji is stamped, painted one stroke at a time, and lacquered to create a patina, before being fashioned into bags, accessories, and more.
