SONG OF THE SOUTH 1947 Vintage Walt Disney Brer Rabbit Home Notes Magazine

SONG OF THE SOUTH 1947 Vintage Walt Disney Brer Rabbit Home Notes Magazine

Classic Treasures from the Disney History Vault... from the Worldwide Disneyana Specialists of Saturday's Toys...

Item:  Home Notes magazine (United Kingdom)

Date:  November 25, 1947

Description:  An exceptionally rare Disney magazine cover featuring Br'er Rabbit from Walt Disney's Song of the South.  This compact magazine was primarily marketed to homemakers throughout Great Britain for the low price of only threepence (aka three English pennies).  While the magazine doesn't include an article about the release, still, the vibrant color cover ways it all.  Filled with articles of interest to residents of the UK including stories, photos and period advertisements of the post-war era following WWII.

The magazine was published just as the animated feature film was enjoying a successful European release began in London only a few weeks earlier on December 16, 1946

It's unlikely that the characters of "Song of the South" will ever again be authorized for public display.  Still, the related materials and merchandise from the film's original release seem to have a continuing audience that understood Walt Disney's deep affection for these stories... and especially for the importance of finding your own "laughing place"... no matter the troubles that might be before you.  Still grateful for the positive influence received in the stories of Joel Chandler Harris and "Uncle Remus"...

Publisher:  C. Arthur Pearson, Limited, London

Measurement:  7" x 10.5"

Condition:  Excellent; beautifully preserved

Note:  As is common with magazines and newsprint of this vintage, even though no damage has occurred to the piece, a faint musty smell may still exist as the materials have been in storage for more than a half century. We'd recommend consulting any of the many online recommendations available for mitigating any lingering scents. The artifact is rare and worthy of archival protections that will preserve the item for many years to come.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.

Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
