James Swan has the best quality antique steel I have ever used, it is extremely hard and holds an edge a long time. These are hard to part with.
All 3 out cannel tools have sound handles with leather bolsters. 2 of them match in form while the small one is slightly different. The measurements are from the inside of the sweep.
1. 1" gouge #7 Sweep. 5 5/8” of handle. 6 1/8” of steel showing.
2. 7/8” gouge, more like a #9 Sweep. wood handle is 5 1/4” lon and the steel that you can see is 5 7/8. Edge on this will need some attention.
3. 1/4” gouge. #7 sweep +/-. It has a thumb nail ground on the end like a lathe gouge. 5 1/4” handle, 4 3/8” of metal visible.Seems close to the #7 sweep. It is very hard to read the name stamped on the channel on this one.
