Features a rare book that is well known to bibliophiles. "Recollections of Robert-Houdin" presents the writings of "the father of modern magic."  Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin (1805 - 1871) lived his entire life in France. He took his hyphenated last name upon his marriage to his first wife, Josèphe Cecile Houdin, in 1830.

Includes portrait of Robert-Houdin on page 7 of text (as shown)

This particular publication was the result of extensive correspondence between interested American conjurors and the family and associates of Robert-Houdin after his passing in 1871. The information, as gathered, was presented by William Manning, Seer, to the sette of odd volumes.  Delivered at a meeting of the sette held at Limmer's Hotel (London) on Friday, Dec. 7, 1890.

The following year, Manning's presentation was published in a limited edition of only 250 copies.  Originally imprinted at The Preswick Press, Tooks Court, Chancery Lane, London (1891).

Eight years later, this pamphlet was then recreated and published for American audiences. (edition size not referenced)

Robert-Houdin's brief publication was "privately printed" for the members of the Sette of Odd Volumes No. XXIV.  This 1898 edition used the collected correspondence along with Robert-Houdin's own text to recreate this edition of the historic book.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.

Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
