MarcusAurelius Probus was Roman emperor from 276 to 282 AD making his coins much scarcer than many emperors. Probus was a successful general and conscientious administrator who secured prosperity for the inner provinces while withstanding repeated invasions of barbaric tribes throughout the frontier. Despite the military basis of his power, he demonstrated leniency when possible and presented himself as a constitutional monarch who respected the authority of the Roman Senate. Despite his widespread popularity, he was killed by soldiers while preparing for the Persian war.
