PCGS Shipwreck Grade B

Many collectors have long been fascinated by Shipwreck Treasures that were found deep under the sea that were once part of the cargo of ships. Over the course of history, tens of thousands of such ships have perished on inland and coastal waters with valuable coins, currency and jewels onboard. Collectors find these treasures especially appealing because they come with a story about the history behind them and how they ended up where they were found, sometimes hundreds of years after the ship sank.

Photos of this $1 Silver Certificate with the deterioration around its edges resulting from years of underwater exposure to saltwater has a “Shipwreck Effect Grade B” with above-average eye appeal and moderate disturbance to its surface. The accurate attribution and identification is not hindered by any surface impairment.

The Doria Project, led by Peter Gimbel, was a recovery project for the SS Andrea Doria, an Italian Ocean Liner, which shipwrecked in 1956. The SS Andrea Doria was bound for New York but collided with the MS Stockhom off Nantucket, Massachusetts and sunk into the ocean. It was one of history's most infamous maritime disasters.

In 1984, one of the First-class Bank Safes was recovered. Inside, US, Canadian & Italian banknotes and traveler checks were discovered.

You will receive the US 1935E $1 US Silver Certificate in the photos that withstood being in seawater for over 25 years at 225 feet on the ocean floor and was recovered from the SS Andrea Doria wreckage on August 17, 1984. The banknote is in a PCGS sealed acrylic holder, Certified and Authenticated by PCGS as Grade B from the SS Andrea Doria wreckage of 1956.

It is accompanied with a Blue Presentation Box, Certificate of Authenticity, the Doria Recovery Project Pamphlet and a DVD.

This Shipwreck Currency is stored in a cool, dry, smoke-free and pet-free environment. The last 2 photos are stock images for illustration only.
