This is a very nice First World War Fourragere in the colors of the French Croix de Guerre that remains in very good condition. It is constructed of braided cord interwoven with red and green threads and has a deluxe brass finial at the tip adorned with a royal crown and facsimile of the Croix de Guerre. Both cord loops for the epaulet button are intact. The knot is tightly wrapped and without numerical designation. This Fourragere remains a fine-looking example in excellent, undamaged condition.

The French Fourragere was awarded to French and Allied units who had distinguished themselves in battle and were awarded the Croix de Guerre as a unit two or more times. Members who served in the unit when the distinction was awarded were authorized to wear the decoration throughout their active service. Members who served with the unit after the decoration was awarded were entitled to wear the distinction while serving with the unit but had to relinquish it upon their separation. 9740
