This is a scarce Greek bronze coin of Antiochos VIII Epiphanes/Callinicus/ Philometer (nickname Grypus “hook-nose”) He was the younger son of Demetrius II and Cleopatra Thea. He returned to Syria from Athens after the death of his father and brother, Seleucus V. He had his wife poisoned in 121BC. After a series of in family murders, his aunt, Cleopatra III of Egypt gave him the hand of marriage to her daughter, Cleopatra Selene in 102 BC. He was assassinated in 96 BC.
