The "Adventures of Tintin" series follows the curious, adventurous, and witty boy reporter Tintin as he travels the world solving various cases. Tintin's adventures span the East and the West, as well as Africa, deserts, the polar regions, the depths of the ocean, the moon, and even imaginary places like Sildavia and Borduria. These stories are renowned for their rich content, earning them the title "encyclopedia of world history and culture."
Volume 8, "The Baton of Ottokar," begins. Around the time author Hergé began serializing this work, Austria was under severe attack by Germany. Under Nazi pressure, the Austrian Chancellor resigned, and soon after, Hitler declared the annexation of Germany and Austria. Austria, succumbing to imperialist ambitions, ultimately became a periphery state within the Third Reich.
Inspired by these historical events, Hergé created the fictional nation of Borduria, a ruthless terrorist nation, and its target, Sildavia. Through the story of Borduria's failed annexation policy, he staunchly resisted the Germans' merciless terrorism and hoped for its failure.
Sildavia, a peaceful small nation in the Balkan Peninsula. Around the 9th century, Borduria, under the leadership of Musotler, occupied Sildavia and devised a grand plan to unite with Sildavia. This plan involved seizing the baton of Ottokar IV, the symbol of Sildavia's absolute power. Tintin, accompanying Professor Alanvic to Sildavia to study King Ottokar's royal seal, discovers the Bordurian military's plot and embarks on a rescue mission to rescue Sildavia from its peril.
